A New Scholarship Fund at Harvard College Means More Opportunities for Undergraduate Students

Following in the footsteps of her parents, Dr. James S.C. Chao and Ruth Mulan Chu Chao, Angela Chao has created a new scholarship program at her Alma Mater, Harvard College. The Ruth Mulan Chu and James Si-Cheng Family Undergraduate Scholarship Fund has been created through a donation from Angela Chao to enable qualified, financially needy undergraduate students to access a top education. Angela Chao received her BA from Harvard College and later on her MBA from Harvard Business School before joining her parents at the international shipping company they founded, Foremost Group.
For Angela Chao, this scholarship is a living tribute to the legacy of her parents, who dedicated their lives to promoting education and providing educational opportunities for others. Her parents stressed the importance of education not only to their daughters, but also to the larger community and world. Their emphasis on education as the tool for success in all aspects of life was inculcated in their daughters, four of whom attended Harvard University. Dr. and Mrs. Chao were particularly involved with strengthening opportunities for success among Asian Americans, funding many building projects, endowed chairs and scholarships in both China and America. They established several philanthropic initiatives through which thousands of students have been able to receive scholarships, allowing them to become economically and emotionally successful.
Donating a scholarship fund to Harvard College provides Angela Chao with an opportunity to give back to the institution that enabled her to be successful in life and to build a road whereby others can follow.
