Guests Gather at the Harvard Club to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Foremost Group

In mid-December 2014, Dr. James Chao and his daughters visited the Harvard Club to celebrate an important anniversary: 50 years of the founding of Foremost Group, a prominent global shipping and transport company founded by Dr. Chao and his late wife. The event was attended by hundreds of guests from the shipping industries of Europe, the United States, China, and Japan. Angela Chao, Foremost Group’s Deputy Chair, hosted the dinner and Elaine Chao spoke of the strong values upheld by her father and late mother, Ruth Mulan Chu Chao. Foremost Group currently has a modern fleet of environmentally friendly bulk carriers with more on order to be constructed in China and Japan. On the evening of the event, Foremost Group and Sumitomo/Oshima Shipbuilding Group (one of Japan’s largest shipbuilding companies) signed a contract for the construction of a new bulk carrier, and employment of this vessel with Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines.
